WNOS and DAMA To: tcp-group@ucsd.edu >From the discussion in TCP-GROUP i found that a few of you are dealing with DAMA in WNOS. The situation here in HB9 is the follwing. We have TNN digi's with dual-speed ports running DAMA. So the only solution for us is to have a NOS version that is able to wrok DAMA and Netrom (as L2-digipeating is off). Many hams around here wan't to give TCP/IP a try and we (at the Swiss ARTG) would like to provide them with some sort of starter-package. What I did so far was giving WNOS5 a try. I ran into the following problems: When switching NETROM on the code wouldn't compile as there were 2 bugs in the code (one vaiable was declared with an underscore in the name but used without (can't remember which one it was but i can look that up) and in one of the subroutines used by NETROM a pointer was not declared). After i fixed these two bugs i was finally able to run it and last weekend hb9ccq (Franz) in i were able to establish connections (Ping, Telnet and FTP) over Netrom. Now i have the following new problems: The WNOS5-code as distributed does not seem to work with the well-known ftpusers-file but with files like ftp.rc, smtp.rc etc. to manage access to the WNOS. I found out so much from diggin into the code but i couln't work out so far what the exact syntax of these files is. Furthermore many commands changed their syntax and i couldn't find any documentation at all about this new release. Is there a DAMA implemntation into some older WNOS4x version ? WNOS4 seems to be documented rather good and it seems to make more sence to go on that one than to WNOS5. We are not looking for some WNOS running under Linux (our Gateway HB9AB runs JNOS on Linux as on the special link-qrg it is connected to hb9zrh there's no DAMA). but under plain MSDOS. We don't need a version with all the bells and whistles but a version where an end-user can get his mail with POP, do FTP to the Gateway and maybe TELNET to it. I would appreciate any help very much as i feel lost in that WNOS5 code ! vy 73, Stephan, HB9DDO AX.25-Mail: hb9ddo@hb9aj.che.eu -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Stephan Walder | Phone : +41 1 465 2963 +-------V-------+ 2.645 / HB9DDO | Fax : +41 1 465 3755 | A L C A T E L | Alcatel STR AG | E-Mail: stephan.walder@alcatel.ch +---------------+ Friesenbergstr. 75 | X.400 : c=CH a=arCom p=Alcatel S T R CH-8055 Zuerich | s=Walder g=Stephan -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 1 Aug 1994 21:39:01 +0300 (EED) From: mea@mea.cc.utu.fi ("Matti E. Many places with binary distributions like SLS, and Slackware (the major contenders), however neither of them are very small for the initial installation.. > i have tried to get it from many FTP sites and keep > running into a problem that keeps me from geting into the > directory that has these magic files! I don't know what that might mean, however many files in Linux packages have previously unseen "extensions" when their names have been forced to be cramped into MSDOS 8+3 format: TGZ == tar.gz TAZ == tar.Z just for example. > i guess what im looking for is a very small copy to see > if it will run on my system and to get the feel for it. > > im thinking of using it for AX25 tcpip instead of NOS Then you need following components: - 8 MB RAM - 80 MB disk (10 MB swap, 70 MB Linux) - kernel src + base binaries 20 MB - compilers 6 MB - network programs 6 MB - Wampes + AX25 on kernel 5 MB (plus Emacs + X-window + ...) (cavet emptor on the sizes, however they should be close..) Unless you have free (or dirt cheap) access to FTP, picking up the necessary 20-30 diskettes full of data may become more expensive, than buying a CD-ROM driver and Slackware or SLS (and what others there are) CD.. (not to mention the SOURCES that are usually present on those CD-ROMs as well. Binary distributions are of minimized size per necessity..) > thanks in advance....kc4bzk@delphi.com /Matti Aarnio OH1MQK ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 2 Aug 1994 8:37:37 +0930 (CST) From: FREEMANR@dstos3.dsto.gov.au Subject: submission To: tcp-group@ucsd.edu Thanks to all who aided me in my quest for a FTPD.NLM. Any body else req a trial of the murkworks version needs to mail them direct as the demo version on the listed server has expired. Has anybody used the FTPD.nlm from the Uni of CZ. It all seems to run ok but when I ftp the server I dont get any response even though the server knows its me and even logs me in th4e log files when Im done Any Clues? ------------------------------ End of TCP-Group Digest V94 #163 ******************************
